Ludwig Ratzinger was born in Germany/ Bavaria where he grew up in a Bakery/ Pastry family owned business. After completing an apprenticeship in Patisserie in GarmischPartenkirchen/ Germany and Bakery in Landsberg/ Germany he managed the pastry and catering department of the family business.
He came to Canada in 1990 where he worked at the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa. and had several stints at the Governor General's official residence, the Burnstown Café as well as the Bread'n Butter bakery. He also ran a successful catering business.
His passion for educating people about food preparation started while instructing students at the Chateau Laurier during their apprenticeship. In 1999 he began to teach a variety of cooking and baking courses with the Ottawa Board of Education.
In 2000 Ludwig and his wife Marion purchased The Oaks Cottages on Crow Lake. Ludwig continues to provide baking and cooking instruction at his home "The Oaks Cottages", at "Upstairs at Loblaws" in Kingston, the Waring House Cooking School in Picton as well as Community centers in the region.
